Our 30 day article marketing challenge

By Alex on July 11th 2008 - 2 comments

When it comes to marketing an article with article directories, there's a huge range of opinion as to whether or not it works. Some people say it's one of the best ways to get back-links and traffic to a new blog. Others say article directories are a thing of the past, it wont help your SEO, and it could even hurt it.

So I'm going to run a 30 day challenge to see if article directories are really dead. I have a few niche blogs I've started up in the last couple weeks, and it's time to start promoting them. Here is how I will conduct this experiment.

For each niche, I've select 3-4 keyword phrases I want to get indexed by Google.

I've selected 15 article directories I will be submitting to. I chose 15 because I'm assuming not every article will be accepted into every directory.

I have Google Analytics setup on all these websites to track traffic statistics.

I will be using Yahoo Site Explorer to check back-links.

I will post one article a day, rotating websites daily. This means after 30 days, each of the 3 websites I'm using for this challenge will have 10 articles submitting to different directories.

I will rotate my pre-picked key phrases in the back-link area to get a variety of keywords circulating in the search engines.

I won't be using any PPC advertising, or promoting these websites any other way besides article directory submissions.

Every so often (at least once a week) I will check the 4-5 key phrases for each website, and note the ranking each week until this challenge is over. I will keep you updated on SEO progress, as well as Analytics stats. Hopefully by the end of this experiment, we'll have a definitive answer to the debate about article directories.

What to join me? I would love to have some other people take on this challenge with me. Even if you're not starting a new website, take this challenge with your current website and see if you can increase your visitor count in 30 days. Leave me a comment below if you have any questions or if you're interested in joining me.

Hey I'm game! I have a couple of niche sites that need some lovin! I'll see if I can't get something started with one today.

Care to share you article directory list? I want to use the same one's for the challenge.

Though I usually don't use that many, how do you plan on splitting up the articles? Will they be the same a various directories or will you spin them up a lil bit?

Yup.. Nice Idea.. I'll check your challenge and if it works then I'll submit my articles to article directories. I guess they will have atleaset a small influence on site traffic..
